NCT, which is currently at the peak of its popularity, not only has many fans, but also sasaengs. Sasaeng is a Korean term for someone who is so obsessed with a particular artist that they are willing to do anything to be close to the artist, including violating privacy.
Recently, a video was uploaded to the internet by someone who is suspected to be a sasaeng of NCT's Jaehyun. The video shows the hotel room where the NCT 127 member stayed during their US tour in October last year. The hotel room video that was uploaded was not from another day when the NCT members were not staying there.
Instead, the video was taken from the room Jaehyun was staying in on the day Jaehyun stayed. The sasaeng allegedly stole the hotel key and snuck in. Inside, she then recorded videos from various angles. Jaehyun was certainly not there, but Jaehyun's personal belongings and the vocalist's stage costume were still in the room.
When the video went viral, many fans then 'proved the authenticity' of the hotel room. In addition to seeing many of Jaehyun's personal belongings that they recognized, NCTzen also remembered one part of the hotel that was used as the background for NCT's live broadcasts via their social media platforms.
The commotion of this video then reached SM Entertainment as NCT's management. They issued an official statement that they would take strict action against the sasaeng with applicable laws. "The video circulating is an illegal act that severely violates our artist's privacy.
We are gathering evidence to take action against the uploader and those who distributed the video. We will seek cooperation from domestic and international parties as well as law firms to thoroughly investigate this matter," SM Entertainment said.
NCT on the other hand will be making their big group comeback through Golden Age. In addition, NCT Lab has also been rebranded into a special platform for NCT members to showcase their musicality outside of what is usually done in the group.
