Christopher Nolan has been confirmed to be working on a new film that is planned to be released on July 17, 2026. The project will be the director's latest project after successfully working on Oppenheimer in 2023. As reported by Deadline on Tuesday October 8, 2024, Nolan's latest film will be the latest collaboration between him and Universal.

In fact, Matt Damon is reportedly in the process of negotiating to play the main character in the film. Christopher Nolan is also said to be the scriptwriter and producer with his wife, Emma Thomas, under the auspices of their second studio, Syncopy. As of now, there is no further information regarding the details of the film's story.

However, the film is planned to begin filming in early 2025. Christopher Nolan last directed the film Oppenheimer in 2023, which tells the story of the life of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer while developing the world's first nuclear bomb. The biopic was a global success, grossing US$977 million at the box office, making it the third highest grossing film of 2023.

Oppenheimer also successfully won the overall title of champion of the 96th Academy Awards, aka the 2024 Oscars, after winning seven trophies, including Best Director for Nolan and the main award for Best Picture. The upcoming film marks Christopher Nolan's second collaboration with Universal after parting ways with Warner Bros., the studio he was with for nearly 20 years.

On the other hand, if the offer is accepted, it will be Matt Damon's third project with Nolan. Matt Damon first worked with the director after starring in Interstellar (2024) and Oppenheimer (2023). In the latter film, Matt Damon plays the director of the Manhattan Project named General Leslie Groves.

With these projects, Matt Damon will also be paired with big names such as Cillian Murphy and Christian Bale, who have worked with Nolan more than three times. The upcoming project also has a big chance of attracting more famous Hollywood actors, considering Christopher Nolan's reputation and the many big names that join each of the legendary director's projects.
