The Fiery Priest 2 is a Korean drama produced by SBS that stars Kim Nam Gil as one of its main stars. Ahead of its premiere, the production team leaked the character he will play in the second season.
The K-drama The Fiery Priest first aired on SBS in 2019 and recorded its highest viewership rating of 22.0 percent, telling the story of a Catholic priest with anger management issues and a cowardly detective who work together to solve a murder case.
Not only Kim Nam Gil, this drama also attracts Honey Lee and Kim Sung Kyun who also starred in the first season to return in season 2. Kim Nam Gil will play Kim Hae Il, giving fans a glimpse of an updated version of his character's anger and determination.
The photos released via SBS Instagram, @sbsdrama.official show scenes where Kim Hae Il reaches the peak of his anger since his first appearance. Wearing a priest's robe, he strides purposefully towards his destination, building anticipation for the justice he seeks through his mission.
Even in the daytime, he has a sharp gaze that shows his seriousness in facing evil. He shows off his incredible martial arts skills in a fierce fight and hilariously grumbles about a “quick way” to heaven during mass.
With Season 2 promising to be even bigger, viewers are eager to see how Kim Hae Il will win their hearts. Kim Nam Gil shared his excitement ahead of the premiere of The Fiery Priest 2, saying, “I am very happy to be returning as Kim Hae Il after five years, and I can’t wait to see how viewers receive it,” as quoted from Soompi on October 22, 2024.
He further added, “Since you have waited so long, I promise to give you a fun experience that meets your expectations. Everyone is working hard to create a great show, so please support us and stay involved.” Kim Nam Gil thanked viewers for their unwavering support over the five years leading up to Season 2.
He said, “I am grateful to be able to greet you all again. We have moved the filming location to Busan, which allows us to expand the scale of the show and offer more things to see.” Then he continued, “I think you will enjoy the mix of familiar faces from Season 1 and new faces in Season 2.
We plan to return on November 8, 2024, so please look forward to it.” The production team stated, “The story of ‘The Fiery Priest 2’ would not exist without Kim Nam Gil.” They added, “Since the first filming, he gave a passionate performance as Kim Hae Il.
The second season, shaped by his dedication, will provide more fun and emotion than anticipated.” The Fiery Priest is Kim Nam Gil's latest Korean drama which will air in 2024 after starring in the Korean drama Song of the Bandits in 2023.
Previously, the 44-year-old actor had shown his stunning acting skills through his works such as Island Part 2, Through the Darkness, One the Woman and many others. The Fiery Priest 2 will premiere on November 8, 2024 at 10 p.m. KST as a replacement for The Judge from Hell.
