Ducati rider Pecco Bagnaia said that this season's MotoGP is similar to the 'alien era' MotoGP when the race was only dominated by certain riders. Since the beginning of the season we saw how Jorge Martin, Pecco Bagnaia, Marc Marquez, and Enea Bastianini, also dominated the races and fought each other to be at the front.
This was proven in the 2024 Japanese GP, the four racers were at the top with a time gap of only 4.3 seconds. While the racer who was in 5th position, Franco Morbidelli, was far behind with a gap of 13 seconds.
With this stark contrast, Pecco Bagnaia is increasingly convinced that this year's competition is starting to look like the 'alien' era of the late 2000s and early 2010s, when riders such as Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa, Casey Stoner, and Marc Marquez, competed for first place.
" I think it's similar to when you watch MotoGP in 2011, 2010, 2012, 2013, when Marc, Vale, Lorenzo, Pedrosa were always at the top, before that there was also Casey Stoner. I think the championship is moving in that direction, because the stronger ones are always at the top ," said Bagnaia, as reported by Crash.
Furthermore, Pecco Bagnaia also commented on his rivalry with Jorge Martin, who is now only 10 points apart. The Italian racer admitted that he wants to try to catch up with his rival, try to cut the remaining points, even overtake him.
However, it seems that Pecco wants something more challenging, he intends to bring this title fight to Valencia, as happened last year. " But I think it would be better if we (Pecco and Martin) arrive in Valencia with the same points, and whoever wins is the champion. That's something that hasn't happened for several seasons ," he added.
Pecco's idea would certainly be very interesting if it really happened, but Pecco himself also admitted that he and Martin were in a situation where it was very easy to fail to finish, aka DNF, which would make the remaining four races even more unpredictable.
