Lee Jin Hyuk has reportedly been exempted from mandatory military service, which he is due to begin this year. On Wednesday November 27, 2024 (KST), Xport News reported on the enlistment of actor and singer Lee Jin Hyuk who turned 28 years old.
The outlet claimed that Lee had been exempted from military service due to a congenital heart condition. The artist underwent major surgery when he was in elementary school due to his heart valve not functioning properly, and has been receiving regular checkups ever since.
Lee Jin Hyuk himself mentioned this event when he was a guest on “Radio Star” in 2019. “ When I was a kid, I thought that everyone had a big scar on their torso like me ,” he said. He added, “ Compared to other young people training to be idols, I had less stamina .” This condition has forced him to undergo constant treatment to manage this chronic condition.
It would also be the reason why he was excused from military service. Other cases of artists who were exempt from entering the military include Kim Woo Bin, who was battling cancer in 2017 when he was due to enlist, and Seo In Guk, who did not perform military service due to an osteochondral injury to the talus.
