NewJeans' Song How Sweet: The Sweetness of Good Karma and the Banishment of Toxic People

NewJeans released a song on May 24, 2024 at 4 PM KST titled " How Sweet ." “How Sweet” is a dynamic hip-hop track infused with Miami Bass influences that embodies NewJeans’ signature hip style. When I first heard it, this song was very "NewJeans". 

Then as usual, there wasn't much memorable about their songs. Their vocals sound similar to each other so it doesn't feel unique and leaves a special impression. In fact, almost all of the songs by this girl group under Ador only offer low notes that if you listen to them repeatedly will make you sleepy.

Then the genre of the song is also similar and not much different from other NewJeans songs. Especially when after listening to "How Sweet" then switching to "Supernatural". The song is really similar so that the diversity of vocals and genres of this group is less pronounced. But "How Sweet" is saved by their memorable lyrics. 

When I first heard the lyrics, I felt like they were not just singing but also telling a story. Then I suddenly remembered the case that is currently happening to them. While the story line of "How Sweet" may not be about the case, the lyrics feel very real and powerful.

Through this song, NewJeans wants to convey that now they know everything. Every day can happen up and down in emotions and circumstances. All of that is because there is a 'little devil' present in their lives. So NewJeans hopes that it will soon be away from them and these girls don't want drama anymore. 

Because all of that will be beautiful karma. Although their vocal colors tend to be similar, NewJeans delivers "How Sweet" perfectly. So that the message of the song reaches the listener. Then the impression of bright and sexy young people also radiates from them so that the music video also feels alive. 

Unfortunately, taking random angles is not suitable for me because it feels dizzy when viewed. Moreover, the music video is quite long, 4 minutes. Through "How Sweet", NewJeans emphasizes that their lives would be so sweet if the "demon" would go away soon and good karma would come soon.
