2PM's Lee Junho is reportedly being investigated for tax evasion. On Thursday December 26, 2024, sources within the industry revealed that the Seoul Regional Tax Office's Bureau of Investigation 2 conducted an irregular tax investigation on Junho.
The Seoul National Tax Service Investigation Bureau 2 is known to have conducted high-intensity tax investigations on famous celebrities such as actors Kwon Sang Woo and Lee Byung Hun in the past. Now, the target is Junho.
Junho is considered to be one of the 2PM members who is very interested in financial technology. In February 2019, the 1990-born idol actor received ownership of two units at The Rivers Cheongdam, a newly built officetel in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, from a trust company.
The Rivers Cheongdam is a rebuilt building of an inn called Cheongwoonjang. Junho managed to acquire two units thanks to his investment when the land was being developed before the officetel was built. The star of the drama "King the Land" is considered to have made a significant profit.
In March 2024, Junho also attracted attention by purchasing a commercial building with 1 basement floor and 4 floors above ground in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul for 17.5 billion won in the name of his family's company, JF Company. The building was purchased in 2017 for 8 billion won by the late actress Kang Soo Yeon, who passed away in May 2022.
The building was inherited by three people after Soo Yeon's death. Located a 4-minute walk from Apgujeong Rodeo Station, the building is used as a nail salon, academy, and beauty salon. At the time, the real estate industry accused Junho of buying the building under the name of his family company as a method of purchasing for tax deductions.
If you buy a building as a company, you can reduce the acquisition tax. If you buy a building in the name of a company established more than 5 years ago in a densely populated area in a metropolitan area, you only need to pay an acquisition tax of 4.6 percent instead of 9.4 percent.
Additionally, since corporate tax is applied, when a company transfers non-residential real estate such as commercial buildings, only the general corporate tax rate applies, so you can avoid excessive taxes. Regarding Junho's alleged embezzlement, JYP Entertainment immediately responded. They asserted, "It was not due to tax evasion. He paid the additional tax in full."
