Ahead of the premiere, the director of the drama ' The Haunted Palace ' shared a sneak peek of the sweet chemistry between Yook Sung Jae and WJSN's Bona. This drama carries the romantic comedy genre with a historical background and a touch of fantasy.

The story is about a Korean mythological creature, namely "eight tails," who holds a grudge against a king, and a female shaman who fights the creature, plus the mysterious figure of Imugi. In Korean mythology, Imugi are creatures that live for thousands of years in the water and can transform into dragons after obtaining a yeouiju (magical gem).

Kim Ji Yeon (WJSN's Bona) plays Yeo Ri, the only granddaughter of a famous shaman. Despite having extraordinary spiritual powers, Yeo Ri rejects her destiny and chooses to become an eyeglass craftsman. Meanwhile, Yook Sungjae plays Yoon Gap, Yeo Ri's first love, whose body is possessed by an Imugi.

Director Yoon Sung Sik revealed that Yook Sungjae, who plays two characters at once, has to show both a half-human and half-god side, a role that is quite challenging. He added, "Yook Sungjae has the visuals and acting skills that are perfect for this role.

Working with him further strengthened my belief in his extraordinary talent." The director also highly praised Bona who played Yeo Ri, a character with deep emotional wounds, but also had to show a strong side as a shaman.

The director also explained the reason for choosing Kim Ji Hoon to play King Yi Jeong. “Yi Jeong is a character who must hide his pain and continue to fight for his people. Kim Ji Hoon, with his gentleness and charisma, is perfect for this role.”

In addition, Yoon Sung Sik also praised the other supporting actors, such as Kim Sang Ho, Ahn Nae Sang, and others, who managed to play their characters very well. In terms of depicting the Imugi and other supernatural creatures, the director emphasized that they prioritized realism. "We avoided excessive visual effects and relied more on direct shots.

A lot of research and concept design went into creating unique supernatural creatures, with high-quality CGI and special effects," he said. The drama also features action scenes that were quite difficult to film. Yoon Sung Sik said, “We avoided overly exaggerated action and chose to depict the action scenes more realistically.

Yook Sungjae and Kim Ji Hoon were involved in many intense action scenes and both showed great talent, even doing most of the dangerous scenes themselves.” Finally, director Yoon Sung Sik emphasized, “The Haunted Palace is a multi-genre drama with diverse charms.

It is too, heavy, or scary, so it can be enjoyed by the whole family and all generations.” Meanwhile, 'The Haunted Palace' itself will start airing for the first time on April 18, 2025 at 9:50 p.m. KST on SBS and can be watched via Viki.
