Legendary manga titled Hana-Kimi is preparing to be adapted into an anime series. The news was conveyed directly after being repeatedly made into live-action in Taiwanese, Japanese, and South Korean versions, over the past few times.
On Tuesday February 4, 2025, the teaser trailer for the anime series was officially released, also revealing the voice actors for the main cast, starting with Taku Yashiro and Kikunosuke Toya as the voice actors for Mizuki, Izumi, and Shuichi.
In an interview, Yamane said that she "felt like flying" after finding out she was chosen to play Mizuki. "When I heard that I was selected, I felt like I was flying, thinking, 'Is this really happening?' But now, I want to stay grounded and give it my all until the end!" he said.
The Hana-Kimi manga was written by the late Hisaya Nakajo and published from 1996 to 2004. The story follows the life of Mizuki Ashiya, a girl who idolizes a teenage athlete named Izumi Sano. In order to meet her idol, Mizuki disguises herself as a boy and enrolls in the all-boys academy where Izumi studies.
There, she befriends a student named Shuichi Nakatsu who slowly falls in love with Mizuki without realizing that she is a girl. The upcoming animated series also marks the first anime adaptation of Hana-Kimi.
The series was previously adapted into four live-action shows, starting with the Taiwanese version in 2006. At that time, Taiwan raised the manga with the same title, namely Hana Kimi and starred SHE member Ella Chen and Fahrenheit members Wu Chun and Jiro Wang.
Japan then adapted the manga in 2007 with the title Hanazakari no Kimitachie and starring Maki Horikita, Shun Oguri, and Toma Ikuta. The Japanese remake continued with Hana Kimi Remake in 2011, which was popularized by then-AKB48 members Atsuko Maeda, Aoi Nakamura, and Shohei Miura.
South Korea became the latest country to adapt a live action film with the release of To the Beautiful You (2012) starring the late f(x) Sulli, SHINee's Minho, and Lee Hyun-woo. On the other hand, there is still no further information regarding the release schedule for the Hana-Kimi anime series.
