SM Entertainment announced the news of the departure of Jungmin, one of the members who was projected to debut in the new NCT unit. They revealed that health conditions were the main reason for the decision.

“Hello, this is SM Entertainment. We would like to thank the fans who have been waiting for the debut of NCT NEW TEAM (tentative name) and we would like to announce Jungmin who was chosen as a pre-debut member,” SM Entertainment said on, Monday, October 2, 2023.

NCT NEW TEAM was scheduled to greet fans through a pre-debut tour starting this week. However, in the midst of the preparation, Jungmin had to leave the group. “Due to health reasons, Jungmin has recently stopped practicing and other activities and is focusing on treatment,” the agency explained.

“As promotional activities are about to begin, we are continuously discussing Jungmin’s activities with his family and medical staff,” they said again. After careful consideration and discussion, Jungmin will focus on his health. He will step down from NCT's new team and return to being a trainee while undergoing treatment.

“We feel sorry for causing concern with the sudden news to fans who supported Jungmin’s debut, and we will support Jungmin so that he can focus on recovery and return to new activities in good condition,” SM Entertainment said.

"As a result, NCT NEW TEAM will continue activities with six members from now on. They are working hard to prepare so please give them your support," he said. SM Entertainment created the event NCT UNIVERSE: LASTART, a competition to select members who will debut in NCT's newest unit and debut in Japan.

The seven members selected are Sion, Yushi, Riku, Sakuya, Daeyoung, Jungmin, and Ryo. They have performed at the NCT NATION concert in Japan with 20 other NCT members. Jungmin himself was absent from the NCT concert.
