A Japanese woman in her 50s was questioned by South Korean police on suspicion of molesting BTS's Jin. The incident occurred during a free hug event in June 2024, which was part of BTS's 11th anniversary celebration.
According to a report from the Korea JoongAng Daily, quoted on Friday February 28, 2025, the woman committed an inappropriate act against Kim Seok-jin during the event. This incident then triggered a report to the National Civil Service on June 14, 2024, which was finally responded to seriously by the police.
The investigation was quite lengthy. The police even asked for Interpol's help in July 2024, until they finally managed to identify the suspect after seven months of collaborative investigation. Currently, the Songpa Police Station has named the woman as a suspect on charges of sexual assault and asked her to report.
Unfortunately, she has not responded yet. In addition to summoning the suspect, the police also plan to ask for information from Jin as the victim. The Festa event held on June 13, 2024 was indeed a special moment, especially because it was Jin's first meeting with fans after completing his military service.
Jin gave hugs to 1,000 lucky fans. While most ARMYs interacted politely, there were a few who tried to kiss him, which of course violated the idol's privacy. The investigation initially began after a BTS fan shared her experience on an online community.
She said she reported the incident to the Seoul Songpa Police Station on the grounds of violating Article 11 of the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence, which regulates harassment in crowded places.
