Cha Eun Woo has been caught up in tax evasion allegations, amounting to 20 billion won at today's exchange rate, Thursday (January 22, 2026). According to Star News, Cha Eun Woo was the target of an investigation by the Seoul Regional Tax Office's Bureau of Investigation 4 last year.
He is suspected of evading income tax and other taxes, as mentioned above. The National Tax Service stated that they had sent a notification to Cha Eun Woo's side regarding the tax. The artist himself is currently serving his mandatory military service.
Furthermore, the National Tax Service suspects fraudulent activity by Cha Eun Woo. This is related to the establishment of a separate family agency from Fantagio, which continues to manage Cha Eun Woo's work. This second agency, let's call it Management A, was founded by Cha Eun Woo's mother.
The National Tax Service suspects the company was established as a tax cut. It also suspects that funds were being channeled to Fantagio, in the form of revenue sharing, from the proceeds generated through the Management A contract.
Furthermore, the National Tax Service reported Management A as a fictitious company. This family agency was deemed to have provided no substantive services. What's certain is that they confirmed Cha Eun Woo's tax status.
The artist failed to pay income taxes of over 20 billion won. Fantagio issued an official statement regarding this matter: "The main issue in this case is whether the company founded by Cha Eun Woo's mother falls into the category of entities subject to substantive taxation.
There has been no final confirmation or official notification at this time, and we plan to actively clarify this issue in accordance with applicable legal procedures. To ensure the process is completed as quickly as possible, the artist and his tax representatives will cooperate diligently.
We assure you that Cha Eun Woo, as a citizen of this country, will continue to faithfully fulfill his tax and legal obligations." Cha Eun Woo is scheduled to be discharged from military service on January 27, 2027. He is currently serving in the military as a member of the Military Band.
