Park Bo Young recently had an interview session regarding her role in the Netflix drama "Melo Movie". One of the things she discussed was the scene where she smokes, an unusual sight for an actress known for her pure image.
Previously, Bo Young's smoking scene drew pros and cons from "Melo Movie" viewers. Some praised the actress' acting saying, "There was a certain nuance" and "She did it well", while others criticized it as a "fake-looking smoking scene" because it was unnatural.
This pros and cons are actually reasonable considering that Bo Young is not a smoker in real life. In her interview, the actress revealed the facts behind the scene where she received a lot of direction from the staff to look natural in smoking. "There were too many people involved when filming that scene.
I received the most direction for it. They kept correcting my fingers and telling me that my positioning was wrong. Even the staff members who were smoking on set gave me advice. When we finally filmed the final shot, I could feel that it came out naturally," said Bo Young.
Bo Young also revealed that she was initially hesitant to star in "Melo Movie". "At first, I asked, 'Is this right for me?' However, I have always wanted to try a role like this. If my previous roles were bright and fun, now I want to show a different side of myself," she said.
Bo Young next emphasized the deeper themes of “Melo Movie,” saying, “It’s not just about sweet and romantic moments, the characters acknowledge each other’s pain, help each other heal, and ultimately grow.” In another interview, Bo Young discussed her kiss scene with Choi Woo Shik in "Melo Movie."
"I have more experience with kiss scenes than Woo Shik. The director emphasized that the ending scene was important and had to look pretty. I suggested that we adjust the angle in a different way, so we discussed the placement," said the actress.
Bo Young also revealed that Woo Shik and the character Go Gyeom she plays have a lot in common. "Maybe because I met Woo Shik through Gyeom. Like Gyeom, he's friendly and has a puppy-like charm, so it didn't take much work to build our chemistry.
He's Gyeom himself, and I thank him for that at the end of the story," concluded the actress. Meanwhile, “Melo Movie” follows young adults navigating love and personal growth while pursuing their dreams. The drama quickly went viral, topping Netflix’s “TOP 10 Series in South Korea Today” chart in just two days.
