1. Big Deal
'Big Deal' tells the story of the clash of values between two different worlds, idealism that grows from togetherness, and cold ambition driven by profit. On one side, there is Pyo Jong Rok, a CFO who has devoted himself wholeheartedly to Gukbo Soju, a traditional Korean company that he considers family.
For him, the company is not just a place to work, but a part of identity and history that is worth preserving. But the tranquility is disturbed by the arrival of Choi In Bum, an ambitious employee from a global investment firm. In Bum, played by Lee Je Hoon, brings an acquisition agenda to save, or perhaps take over, Gukbo Soju which is on the brink financially.
With a modern mindset and focus on efficiency, he struggles to understand old customs such as drinking soju with coworkers after office hours, something that is considered important for togetherness and company culture.
2. Escape
'Escape' takes viewers to the gripping side of a divided land, a military zone near the DMZ. Amidst the tension, Sergeant Gyu Nam secretly plans an escape to the South. But when he tries to stop a young soldier, Dong Hyuk, from escaping, he is caught red-handed, jeopardizing his long-planned plan.
The situation changes when Major Hyun Sang of the State Security Department, who has known Gyu Nam since childhood, chooses to save his life. Instead of punishing him, he changes the narrative, Gyu Nam is seen as a hero who caught a deserter.
But behind all that, Gyu Nam still maintains the determination to live according to his own wishes, not under the control of the state. Meanwhile, Hyun Sang tries to stop him, not in the name of power, but to save his old friend's life.
3. Collectors
In a world full of secrets and relics of the past, 'Collectors' presents a fresh adventure action. Kang Dong Gu is an elite tomb raider who relies not only on courage, but also intelligence. Together with his team, Dr. Jones, an expert on ancient tomb murals, and Sabdari, a legendary excavator, they navigate historical sites with great precision and mature strategy.
When an expert curator of ancient art, Yun, offers to join him on a tempting and dangerous heist mission, Dong Gu is faced with a dilemma between greed, curiosity, and the risk of losing everything.
4. Time to Hunt
In a dystopian Korea devastated by economic crisis, 'Time to Hunt' presents a dark tale of struggle and betrayal. Jun Seok, fresh out of prison, returns to the arms of his three best friends, Jang Ho, Ki Hoon, and Sang Soo. Together, they devise a daring plan to change their fate and escape life in the bleak slums.
However, the freedom they dreamed of was short-lived. Not long after their action, a mysterious figure appeared and began to hunt them down one by one. It is not clear who he is, or why he is hunting them, but what is certain is that their lives have now become a game of survival.
5. I Can Speak
On the surface, 'I Can Speak' seems like a story about two individuals who clash over their differences in age and approach to life. Ok Boon, nicknamed “Goblin Granny,” is known as a stubborn old woman who has filed over 8,000 complaints to government offices in the past two decades.
Meanwhile, Min Jae, a young and perfectionist civil servant, tries to maintain order by asking Ok Boon to follow official procedures. But everything changes when Ok Boon finds out that Min Jae is fluent in English. She asks Min Jae to teach her. Gradually, from the initially tense interaction, a warm and respectful relationship grows.
As Min Jae learns the touching personal reasons behind Ok Boon's desire to learn English, the story takes a deep dive into the past. Well, those were Lee Je Hoon's five best films that must be on your watchlist. 'Big Deal' will be his latest project scheduled to air in early June 2025.
