Song Joong-ki returns to the small screen with a different role than usual. Known for his action-packed and fantasy-filled roles in dramas like Vincenzo and Reborn Rich, he now takes on a more down-to-earth role as a flower seller in JTBC's latest series, "My Youth."

This drama tells the story of Woo-hae, a former child actor who becomes a florist, and his first love, Jae-yeon (played by Chun Woo-hee). The two meet again after many years and rekindle their love story.

This marks Song Joong-ki's return to the melodrama genre after nearly a decade, since his hit drama "Descendants of the Sun." At a press conference in Seoul, Song Joong-ki expressed his excitement.

"I'm thrilled to be returning to melodrama. It's a genre I've always dreamed of as an actor. It's an honor to have found a script that makes my heart flutter again," he said. He added that this role presented a new challenge for him.

"Most of the characters I've played before weren't rooted in reality. I wanted to try a more ordinary, everyday character," Song Joong-ki said, explaining his reason for choosing "My Youth."

Despite the more subdued genre, Song Joong-ki admitted to feeling a bit of pressure following the massive success of his last drama, Reborn Rich. "Thankfully, my last project was well-received.

The pressure wasn't too much; it actually gave me a sense of responsibility to do better," he added. “My Youth” is directed by Lee Sang-yeop, who previously starred in the webtoon adaptation “Yumi's Cells.” The drama premiered last Friday on JTBC.
