The production team of the Korean drama 'Dear X', TVING, recently released an apology regarding the promotional poster for Dear X which was said to be a plagiarism of a film poster from China.
Previously, TVING released a promotional poster for Dear X featuring the drama's lead star, Kim You Jung. The poster features the word "Dear X" scrawled in red ink on torn white paper, and a brief glimpse of Kim You Jung's gaze is revealed.
However, shortly after the poster was released to the public, allegations arose that the Dear X poster was a plagiarism of the poster for the Chinese film 'The Devotion of Suspect X'. The film was released in 2017.
Receiving accusations of plagiarism, representatives of the Dear X production team have issued an apology to the public. "We recognized the similarity to one of the references and stopped using it as soon as possible.
We have also decided not to use it again in the future," the statement read, quoted Wednesday (September 10, 2025). Furthermore, they expressed their regret for causing anxiety to many fans eager to watch Dear X.
TVING will also tighten its inspection procedures to prevent a similar incident from happening again. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by our mistake in not checking the production process thoroughly.
We will tighten the checking process to ensure this will not happen again," said the Dear X production team. Dear X is a thriller drama about a manipulative actress who manipulates everyone around her for her own personal gain. This new TVING drama is scheduled to premiere on November 6, 2025.
