Veteran South Korean actor Lee Soon Jae passed away at the age of 91 on Tuesday (November 25, 2025). Lee Soon Jae passed away in the early hours of the morning, and funeral arrangements are currently being planned.
His passing has left actress Kim Hye Soo deeply saddened. Kim Hye Soo posted a photo of Lee Soon Jae on Instagram and paid her final respects. " I owe you a lot and have received a lot of help throughout my life. Thank you ," wrote Kim Hye Soo.
Lee Soon Jae was born in Hoeryong, North Hamgyong Province, in 1934. He moved to Seoul at the age of four. According to Joongang News, Lee Soon Jae studied Philosophy at Seoul National University.
While in college, Lee Soon Jae enjoyed watching films. After seeing the film Hamlet, starring British actor Laurence Olivier, he decided to pursue an acting career. Lee Soon Jae debuted through the drama Beyond the Horizon (1956).
He then starred in many Korean dramas, including What is Love (1991), How Is Your Husband? (1993), A Problem at My Younger Brother's House (2003), The King 2hearts (2012), Do Do Sol La La Sol (2020), The Red Sleeve (2021), Again My Life (2022), and many more.
Before going on hiatus due to health issues, he participated in a theater performance titled Waiting for Waiting for Godot, as well as playing a role in the KBS2 drama, Dog Knows Everything. Thanks to his acting in Dog Knows Everything, Lee Soon Jae won the Daesang (Grand Prize) from the 2024 KBS Drama Awards.
