PSY was the target of a police search for alleged violations of regulations regarding non-face-to-face prescriptions for sleeping pills and the taking of drugs by another party (proxy).
On December 11, 2025, PSY's agency, P NATION, confirmed to Sports Kyunghyang, "It is true that the police conducted a search on December 4, 2025. We are fully cooperating with the authorities' requests, and we will continue to follow all necessary legal procedures going forward."
Previously, KBS TV station reported that the Seodaemun Police, Seoul, had conducted a search of P NATION's office and PSY's private car on December 4, 2025 on suspicion of violating the Medical Service Act.
Police reportedly confiscated PSY's cellphone for digital forensics and secured various documents related to non-face-to-face prescriptions and the dispensing of medication by others. Based on the evidence obtained, police are reportedly considering summoning PSY in person for questioning.
PSY is suspected of having received prescriptions for psychotropic drugs (sleeping pills) from a Seoul university hospital from 2022 until recently without ever visiting a doctor. The drugs were then collected by his manager on PSY's behalf.
P NATION explained, "Since the pandemic, PSY has been receiving prescriptions via telemedicine. Afterward, due to his busy schedule, he continued with non-face-to-face consultations. We acknowledge there was negligence in this regard."
However, the agency emphasized, "PSY did not receive any prescriptions in anyone else's name, did not take more than the prescribed dose of the medication, and did not use the medication for purposes other than the prescribed treatment."
Currently, the police are still conducting an in-depth investigation into whether this action violates the provisions on prescribing and managing psychotropic drugs in South Korea.
