South Korean singer, BoA, known as the "Star of Asia," has officially ended her long partnership with SM Entertainment after 25 years of working together. On January 12, 2026, SM Entertainment released an official statement confirming that the artist's exclusive contract has expired as of December 31, 2025.

This decision was made after in-depth discussions between both parties. In a statement, SM Entertainment paid tribute to BoA, who debuted at the age of 13 in 2000. "BoA has been loved by global music fans as an 'icon of global expansion' who pioneered Hallyu across Asia.

She has become a role model for many junior artists who are now driving the K-pop boom," the agency wrote. For two and a half decades, BoA has been more than just an artist for SM, but a symbol of pride.

The agency stated that it is an honor to walk alongside the pioneer who has carved a new chapter in Korean popular music history. Following the announcement, BoA posted a short but touching message on her personal Instagram account, expressing her gratitude and satisfaction for the long journey she had been on.

"Having given and received without holding back, I leave without regrets. I am grateful for the time we spent together and will continue to support SM Entertainment so that it can always shine. Thank you," BoA wrote.

Despite the expiration of her exclusive contract, SM Entertainment confirmed that it will continue to support BoA in her future challenges and new activities. As a tribute, the agency also released a tribute video chronicling the star's illustrious career from her debut to her role as a producer.
