Zhao Lusi has been in the spotlight for the past year due to her health. The Chinese actress was said to be physically and mentally ill due to her work. This forced her to stop filming and take a break from the entertainment industry.
After worrying and missing her fans, Zhao Lusi finally announced her return to acting. Actress and singer Zhao Lusi has spoken about her career plans for 2026. In a recent Xiaohongshu live broadcast, the 27-year-old admitted she's considering her next project.
Fans can look forward to her new work, as Lusi now has more freedom to write her own scripts. "I recently saw some drama scripts that I thought were pretty good and I'm planning to return to acting... It's true, when I see projects that are pretty good, I ask the producers, 'Is this a good IP?'
They said it was good. I also asked if they thought my fans would like it and they said they would," he said, as reported by Asia One. While she often chose her own scripts before, she now has more freedom to create dramas that resonate with everyone.
"I'm both an actress and a production manager. It's important for me to create dramas that everyone wants to watch. A drama that resonates with everyone requires a combined effort from the director, production team, and actors," said Zhao Lusi.
Zhao Lusi, known for dramas such as Love Like the Galaxy (2022), Hidden Love (2023), and Love's Ambition (2025), also plans to release new songs ahead of Chinese New Year. Previously, at a fan meeting, Lusi performed her latest song, "Black Veil Bride," which was released last October 2025.
But this year, she also wants to branch out into variety shows. "Many people say it's better for actors not to appear on variety shows. I'm also not sure if my personality is suited for variety shows because I'm quite slow at getting along with others.
"But I also wonder if this could be a breakthrough and a new experience, allowing more people to see the real me. If you know my true personality, you can choose to like or dislike me... that might be a better choice for everyone." Last year, Zhao Lusi was mostly in the news due to her personal issues.
Since then, she's wondered if the public would still accept her true self. Therefore, Lusi wants to prove it through a variety show. In December 2024, Lusi sparked public concern after photos of her in a wheelchair in a hospital emergency room circulated.
A month later, she admitted to having suffered from depression since 2019. Initially, she didn't seek help because she was told to be more "open-minded." However, her condition worsened, leading to skin allergies, pneumonia, and night sweats.
In a live broadcast, Lusi also expressed her hope of recovering her strength and reducing her medication in the new year. "I hope to be in good condition so that the drama team and those around me can rest assured, and their focus will not be on my health but on the drama production," she said.
