Gunil, a member of the K-Pop group Xdinary Heroes , has denied JYP Entertainment's claims regarding his resignation and stated that he never agreed to terminate his contract. On August 20, 2026, Gunil's lawyer, Sung Jaehwan of Juwon Law Firm, issued a statement via social media to clarify the situation.

The lawyer said, "The artist deeply apologizes to Xdinary Heroes fans and group members for the concern caused by this incident." In her statement, Gunil admitted that she had used inappropriate expressions in a personal context, calling it a "mistake that cannot be justified under any circumstances."

However, he explained that Gunil was under severe psychological pressure due to several online posts and the invasion of privacy that occurred at the time. During a private phone call, Gunil ended up using inappropriate language, and he fully understands the weight of that responsibility.

Gunil's legal representatives also emphasized that the incident is unrelated to the various other claims that have recently circulated online. After reviewing the records, the lawyers stated, "The claim that Gunil routinely or repeatedly used abusive language toward Xdinary Heroes fans is completely false."

They also denied claims that Gunil spoke negatively about the other members or was in a relationship with someone else while still in a relationship. Gunil's legal representative further stated, "The artist did not voluntarily leave the group, nor did he agree to terminate his exclusive contract."

The lawyer added, "Given the circumstances and nature of this matter, it is difficult to conclude that there is a legitimate reason for the termination of the contract." This statement directly contradicts the official statement released by JYP Entertainment on August 13, 2026.

After an individual claiming to be Gunil's ex-girlfriend leaked an audio recording alleging Gunil had insulted fans, the agency stated that after in-depth discussions with Gunil, they concluded that resuming team activities would be difficult. The agency also noted that the exclusive contract had been terminated by mutual agreement.

Regarding the online post made by an individual claiming to be Gunil's ex-girlfriend, his legal representative noted that the claims were numerous and that the damage to Gunil was significant enough to warrant legal action.

However, Gunil reportedly hopes to forgive the person who posted it and does not plan to pursue legal action. Gunil's legal representative also added that Gunil does not want to cause fans any further stress and hopes to continue discussions with JYP Entertainment in a cooperative manner.

Concluding the statement, Gunil's legal representative emphasized, "We once again sincerely apologize to fans and group members for the worry and fatigue caused by this issue. We hope that the subsequent procedures can be completed smoothly and quickly," while adding, "The artist hopes to continue to do his best by the fans' side."
