One Dollar Lawyer episode 5 begins at artist Kim's house, where Ji-hun, Ma-ri and Mu-jang try to gather evidence to defend Kim Min-jae in a gruesome murder case. While there, as Ma-ri wanders around to find some evidence on her own, the two find something rather odd in the woods. After the initial formalities, it turns out that Min-hyeok and the others are in the same case! It's a crime-ridden night as Ji-hun asks Ma-ri to spy on Min-hyeok as he continues to figure things out as they stand at the crime scene.
After dropping everyone off, however, Ji-hun returns home to look at things a little deeper. As the prosecutor starts looking at the case to convict Min-jae, Ji-hun looks through Artist Kim's painting to find some sort of clue inside. However, when Ma-ri sends them a video of Su-yeon chatting with Han Jae-sook (silently, then) Ji-hun starts lip-reading. Unfortunately for him, it turns out to be useless, and Ma-ri berates them for not being able to think of anything.
However, when Ji-hun sees him again, it turns out that Jae-hoon is blackmailing Su-yeon for more money to keep something very shocking from the police. Unfortunately, they can't figure out this secret and decide to talk to Su-yeon instead. Su-yeon, on the other hand, goes to see Min-jae and he tells him that Jae-sook blackmailed him, saying that he would tell the police where his father was. Min-jae is convinced that Jae-sook is clueless and tells Su-yeon to let it go, that it will all be over soon.
In flashback, we see him wielding a bloody knife as his mother lay dead on the floor and brushing off evidence, telling us he might just be the real killer here. Ji-hun and Ma-ri run into Su-yeon, who insists Min-jae is innocent. However, the two are on the fence and asking interesting questions that make Su-yeon uncomfortable and only slightly wary of the two lawyers. After the meeting, the two of them head to the gallery to meet the only witness to the incident a painting.
Ma-ri doesn't really accept her weird ways but goes to the gallery anyway. Unfortunately, the painting they were looking for was nowhere to be found, and whoever they spoke to gave them a cold demeanor. After a rather useless day, Ji-hun insists on getting the painting, which Ma-ri just asks her mother to buy. That night, Ma-ri and Min-a engage in a hot bidding war that she ends up losing to someone who, surprisingly, bids 2 billion won. Ma-ri, now annoyed, promises to find another way to get her.
On the other hand, Min-hyeok and his team interrogate Min-jae, but are unable to open it. However, the break came from a rather strange place for him, and the triumphant happiness was evident on his face. The next day, Ji-hun and the rest of the team try to figure out what happened in this case because obviously, everyone was acting a bit defensive and suspicious about the death. Something's definitely not coming their way, and when Mu-jang asks the other two to stop thinking for a bit, Ji-hun gets a gift that, apparently, solves everything.
He finds an expert to look at the painting after learning that Chun-gil's last painting was moved from its place, and the expert tells him that the man with the black umbrella, the artist's signature style, was added later while the backdrop was being created. painted three years ago. So, something must have happened to the painting that needed a retouching and thus, the only person who can do the retouching is the artist himself.
Meanwhile, Min-hyeok shows Min-jae some shocking evidence. Later, Ji-hun and Ma-ri go hiking on the same side of the road as Chun-gil to try and figure out where the artist might have gone. Meanwhile, at the prosecutor's office, Min Jae makes a curious request and thinks back to the events from the fateful night and finally, as a reward for letting him play music, he tells Min Hyeok that he killed his mother.
However, Ye-jin and the rest of her comrades aren't convinced, in fact, they're convinced that there's more to this story than meets the eye. When Ma-ri gets the news, Ji-hun finds out where Chun-gil is hiding. He meets Min-jae later, and interestingly enough, the two of them have a rather interesting conversation where it is revealed that Min-jae was the one who drew the man with the black umbrella, not Chun-gil, something he got. found out from Jae-sook at the crime scene just before coming to prison.
