The news of alleged sexual harassment by actor O Yeong Su shocked the public. He allegedly touched a woman inappropriately in 2017. Regarding this news, O Yeong Su finally opened his voice. Quoted from JTBC, he denied having committed sexual harassment. O Yeong Su emphasized that he only held his hand without any other intention.
The South Korean actor also expressed his apologies to the victim who reported the case to the police. "I just held his hand to guide him to walk around the lake," said O Yeong Su. "I'm sorry because he (the victim) said he wouldn't make an issue of this, but that doesn't mean I admit the accusation," he said.
Previously, the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office indicted O Yeong Su on Friday, November 25, 2022 on suspicion of sexual harassment without detention. He was accused of inappropriately touching a woman's body in 2017. The police received the victim's complaint in December 2021 and forwarded the relevant documents to the higher authorities in February 2022.
The authorities then interviewed witnesses and reviewed the opinions of lawyers, but decided not to proceed with the case in April 2022. After hearing the police decision, the victim filed an appeal. The appeal was accepted, so the case was re-investigated by the prosecutor's office. After that, the results of the investigation found evidence that supports the allegation of sexual harassment.
Thus, the case that dragged O Yeong Su's name also went to court. In relation to this case, the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office is reported to have charged O Yeong Su without detention. O Yeong Su is widely known for his role as Oh Il Nam's grandfather, or player number 001 in the Squid Game. He won the 2022 Golden Globe award for this role.
