Nam Tae Hyun, former member of boy group WINNER, has finally received punishment after causing a drunk driving accident in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. This past March, the police sent Nam Tae Hyun to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on charges of DUI (drunk driving), and prosecutors issued a brief indictment against him.
A brief indictment is a procedure in which the prosecution requests a fine through a written process and other means without referring the suspect to a formal court. Nam Tae Hyun was driving about 5 to 10 meters under the influence of alcohol near Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at around 3:30 a.m. local time on March 8, 2023.
During the incident, Nam Tae Hyun also damaged the rearview mirror of the taxi he passed when he opened the door of his parked car. Nam Tae Hyun's side said, "While waiting for a replacement driver, he tried to move his car which blocked his acquaintance's vehicle. He had no reason for his hasty judgment."
The results of the police alcohol test stated that Nam Tae Hyun's blood alcohol concentration was 0.114%, exceeding the license cancellation limit of 0.08%. Reporting from KBIZoom on Friday July 7, 2023, Judge Ham Hyun Ji of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Nam Tae Hyun to a fine of 6 million won on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving drunk).
Meanwhile, Nam Tae Hyun is still being investigated by the prosecution for purchasing and administering methamphetamine together with former member of the dating show program "Heart Signal 3", Seo Min Jae, who is his girlfriend. In August last year, Seo Min Jae sparked controversy by posting a post on his SNS that revealed that he and Nam Tae Hyun used methamphetamine.
The police finally launched an investigation into the two and filed arrest warrants for Nam Tae Hyun and Seo Min Jae on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
