Korean drama Shadow Detective 2 has aired its first two episodes on Wednesday July 7, 2023. Shadow Detective 2 brings back the story of Detective Kim Taek Rok (Lee Sungmin), and a big question mark about the true identity of his 'friend'.
Episode one of Shadow Detective 2 featured Kim Taek Rok's return to the Geumo City Police after a 1.5-year hiatus. However, Kim Taek Rok has now been transferred from the Crimes Unit to the Women and Juvenile Unit. This then gives a new color to the story of Shadow Detective.
Kim Taek Rok also appears as a different figure. He seems to hide a lot from his closest co-workers, such as Lee Seonga (Gyeong Sujin) and Son Gyeongchan (Lee Hakju). What's more, Kim Taek Rok now has to face the mysterious Team Leader in the Women and Youth Unit, Yeon Juhyun (Kim Shin Rok).
Watching the first two episodes is not enough to judge whether Yeon Juhyun is a character who sides with Kim Taek Rok or vice versa. Shadow Detective 2 opens with a theft case that has recently disturbed the Geumo community, which turned out to be carried out by a group of teenagers.
However, the thefts committed by the teenagers open the gates of investigation to more complicated and larger cases. The audience was then curious about how Kim Taek Rok dealt with this case full of lies and conspiracies, considering that he had changed divisions."Kim Taek Rok's tenacity and passion to catch the suspect behind the crime will be portrayed in a deeper sense.
The characters are more intense, which makes the series even more tense," Director Han Dong Hwa said in a press conference on Monday July 3, 2023, quoted by The Korean Times. The next episode of Shadow Detective will air every Wednesday exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
