Shakira's feelings are blooming. The singer received a sign of respect from the people of his homeland, Barranquilla, Colombia. The figure of this Latin musician was immortalized in the form of a giant statue made of copper as high as 6.4 meters.
This mother of two expressed her gratitude by uploading a photo on Instagram, Tuesday December 26, 2023. The photo shows his parents, William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia del Carmen Ripoll Torrado, standing in front of a giant statue of Shakira.
"Sharing this with my parents and especially my mother on her birthday made 'me happy. This was too much for my small heart," she wrote. The statue depicts her wearing a bikini top and flowing skirt while shaking her hips. The shape of this statue is inspired by the iconic video clip for the song 'Hips Don't Lie' which was released in 2005.
The statue is placed on the waterfront of Barranquilla, where he was born and raised. A dedication on the statue reads: 'A quiet heart, hips that don't lie (Hips Don't Lie), unparalleled talent, a voice that moves the masses and feet that move for the good of children and humanity.'
This award comes after Shakira has had a tough few years. This 46 year old woman had to go through a painful breakup with footballer Gerard Pique, after 11 years together. The singer of the song 'Waka Waka' was also involved in a tax evasion case.
