A 28-year-old woman, with the initials A, was arrested by police after trying to escape when an arrest warrant was issued on charges of extortion against the late actor Lee Sun Kyun.
According to a KBS report on Thursday December 28, 2023, A was supposed to attend a trial at the Incheon District Court on Tuesday December 26, 2023 at 14.30 South Korean time regarding alleged extortion. However, without giving an explanation, A suddenly did not appear in the courtroom.
This incident prompted the police to start a search and issue an arrest warrant for A. After his whereabouts were discovered, the police arrested A by force. Currently, A is being held at the Nonhyeon Police Station in Incheon.
She will be scheduled to be examined on the same day at 14.30 South Korean time or 12.30 WIB and will be tried by Judge Lee Kyu-hoon from the Incheon District Court. A was accused of extorting the late actor Lee Sun Kyun in the amount of 50 million Won.
Apart from A, Sun Kyun also reported another woman given the initials B, a 29 year old manager of an entertainment venue. He is also suspected of committing extortion. B allegedly blackmailed Sun Kyun for 300 million Korean won. Sun Kyun claims to have been tricked by B into using drugs.
This case began in September 2023, when the Incheon Police Narcotics Crime Unit received information about the practice of drug use by a manager at an elite club in Gangnam, Seoul. The manager was arrested on September 21, 2023. In his testimony, he dragged the names of Lee Sun Kyun and other parties into the investigation.
Lee Sun Kyun is known to know about the club through acquaintances, being a regular customer, and forming a friendship with the manager. The drug case involving Lee Sun Kyun continues, and his profound death on Wednesday December 27, 2023 adds to the complexity of the situation.
Before his death, Lee Sun Kyun underwent a long examination regarding the drug case that involved him, and he felt that the process was unfair because the perpetrator's confession was the basis for the accusation, even though the test stated that Lee Sun Kyun was negative for drugs.
