On Tuesday August 6, 2024 night South Korean time, BTS's Suga was found lying on the road after falling after riding an electric scooter while drunk. He was taken to the Seoul Yongsan Police Station for questioning and was allowed to go home on Wednesday August 7, 2024.
The police who found Suga on the road conducted a breathalyzer test. The test results showed that Suga had alcohol above the threshold in his blood. At that level (minimum 0.08 percent) a person is not allowed to drive a car or in Suga's case an electric scooter.
In South Korea, the rules for riding an electric scooter are the same as driving a car. A driver's license is required and the user is subject to traffic rules. Because of this incident, BTS Suga's driver's license was finally revoked.
BIGHIT MUSIC management has issued an official statement regarding the BTS Suga incident. They apologized and provided an update on Suga's condition. Shortly after, the People singer also personally wrote an apology. He admitted his mistake and explained his version of events.
Here is a letter of apology from BTS's Suga regarding the drunk scooter riding incident: "Hello, this is Suga. It is with a heavy heart and full of guilt that I must convey this disappointing news. After drinking (alcohol) at a dinner party last night, I rode my electric scooter home.
I broke the traffic rules because I thought it was not too far and failed to realize that riding an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol is prohibited. I fell after parking my scooter in front of my house and the nearest police officer conducted a breathalyzer test, resulting in me being fined and my driver's license being revoked.
Although there were no casualties and damage to public facilities due to the incident, this is my full responsibility without any reason, I sincerely apologize to everyone. I apologize to everyone who was hurt by my carelessness and wrong actions and will be careful in the future so that something similar does not happen again."
The incident of BTS's Suga getting drunk after riding an electric scooter occurred while he was undergoing his military service as a public service officer. In a different statement issued by BIGHIT MUSIC, Suga was said to be punished by his workplace because of the incident.
