A United States court granted a protective order for Sabrina Carpenter after a man repeatedly tried to enter her home. A protective order is a legal prohibition against approaching or contacting someone.

According to a HuffPost report on Thursday, June 18, 2026, a man named William Applegate, 31, was recorded trying to break into Carpenter's home more than a dozen times. He has now been banned from approaching the pop singer for five years.

At trial, Applegate claimed she and Carpenter were involved in a secret military program that required them to “come together immediately” for “national and global security.” The case came to a head last month.

In her court filing, Carpenter alleged that Applegate had punched a security guard and was arrested after reaching the front door of her Los Angeles home. Applegate reportedly entered through a neighbor's property. She then reappeared within the next few days.

A judge then issued a temporary protective order on May 29, 2026. At trial, Applegate admitted to all of her attendance. However, she claimed Carpenter wanted her there. She also said she would be willing to step aside if Carpenter asked her to.

Applegate accused the police and Carpenter's representatives of obstructing her. Carpenter was prepared to testify remotely, but was not called to testify. Carpenter's attorney, Blair Berk, said his client fears for his safety and that of his family.

“He fears for his personal safety and the safety of his family members,” Berk said. In the complaint, Applegate admitted to being present when Carpenter performed at Coachella in April 2026. She claimed Carpenter looked at her while she sang as a form of communication.

Carpenter denied the claims. In a court filing, he called Applegate a “complete stranger” whom he had never met, never spoken to, and never wanted to know. Judge David L. Wasserman ordered Applegate to stay at least 100 yards (91 meters) away from Carpenter.

The ban also applies to Carpenter's sister and her sister's partner, who live with her. Applegate is also prohibited from contacting Carpenter in any way and is not allowed to possess firearms.

“I expect you to obey the court's orders, not what you think is right and not what you think the military ordered,” the judge said. HuffPost also reports that Applegate remains under criminal investigation.

However, court records do not yet indicate any formal charges. Carpenter, 27, rose to fame on the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World before pursuing a music career. She rose to fame with the release of her 2022 album, Emails I Can't Send.

Her career skyrocketed after her 2024 album, Short n' Sweet, spawned the hits Espresso and Please Please Please. The album earned her several Grammys and established her as one of the world's biggest pop stars.
