Hyeri was awarded the Screen International Rising Star Asia Award at this year's NYAFF (New York Asian Film Festival). The award was given for her performance in the new Korean film Victory. This year's NYAFF is the 23rd edition.
Running for 17 days, the New York-based film festival has now officially ended after screening more than 90 films. Not only screening, NYAFF also presents filmmakers from all over the world to take the stage and share their experiences.
Lee Hyeri along with Park Se Wan, director Park Beom Su, and producer Lee Anna took the stage in this session to talk about the film Victory. The film Victory premiered at NYAFF on July 12, 2024. This film about cheerleaders was also the opening film at the festival.
In addition to Victory, the New York Asian Film Festival also screened several other South Korean films such as Exhuma, 12.12: The Day, The Roundup: Punishment, and Escape. These films received an extraordinary response from the audience. After Victory, Hyeri is ready to produce her latest Korean drama titled Friendly Rivalry.
The Girl's Day member will be the main character in the thriller drama adapted from a webtoon by Song Chae Yoon. Hyeri plays a character named Yoo Jae Yi who is described as a lesbian. This will be Hyeri's first time playing an LGBT character in her acting career.
Yoo Jae Yi is described as a high school student who looks perfect while Seul Gi is a very naive transfer student. The two become best friends before slowly showing their craziness and ambition to become the best student in school. Friendly Rivalry will air in 2025. The filming process for this Korean drama has not yet started.
