JTBC news program 'Newsroom' has issued an official apology for making false reports during its coverage of the drunk driving incident involving BTS's Suga. At the end of the August 16, 2024 broadcast of 'Newsroom', the hosts stated, "We are reporting on a drunk driving incident involving BTS member Suga on August 7, 2024."
"At the time, the first part of the report showed CCTV footage of him riding an electric scooter on the road, but police investigations confirmed that the man in the footage was not Suga. We apologize for any confusion caused."
On August 7, 2024, 'Newsroom' released CCTV footage, claiming that it was footage of Suga riding an electric scooter while drunk in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the 6th. However, after confirming that the person in the recording was not Suga, 'Newsroom' deleted and made the news footage released on various portal sites and official channels private from the afternoon of the 14th.
The CCTV portion of the report footage on the official homepage was also replaced with footage of a public road unrelated to the incident. On August 15, 2024, 'Newsroom' corrected the information by saying, "After investigating the driver's route, etc., the police confirmed that the driver in the footage was not Suga," and finally issued an official apology a day later. 'Newsroom' has made several false reports about BTS.
In a December 2019 broadcast, it was reported that BTS members were considering legal action against their agency BIGHIT MUSIC over profit sharing, but this was found to be untrue, and they issued an official apology. Last June 2024, during coverage of NewJeans' solo fan meeting at the Tokyo Dome, a Japanese audience member's interview was mistranslated as "BTS fans have switched to New Jeans," drawing criticism.
