Actor Daniel Radcliffe delivered a message containing memories of his first meeting with actress Maggie Smith who died on Friday September 27, 2024. As reported by Page Six, the Harry Potter actor recounted his first meeting with the actress while reading the script for Davis Copperfield.

"The first time I met Maggie Smith, I was 9 years old and we were reading the script for David Copperfield, which was my first job," Radcliffe said. The actor initially admitted that he didn't know Maggie Smith very well. However, Radcliffe's parents were surprised to learn that their son would be working with the legendary actress.

"The other thing I knew about her was that she was a Dame. So the first thing I asked her when we met was, 'do you want me to call you Dame?'. She (Maggie Smith) laughed and said 'don't be ridiculous!'," Radcliffe said. He continued his story with the nervous feeling he felt when he met Maggie Smith. 

However, that feeling quickly disappeared because of the warmth given by Maggie Smith. "(Maggie Smith) can be intimidating and charming at the same time, and she's so funny," he said. The actor in Now You See Me 2 also admitted that he was very lucky to be able to work with the figure who played Professor McGonagall. Maggie Smith has reportedly died at the age of 89. 

The news of her passing was conveyed directly by her two children. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital this morning on Friday September 27, 2024," said Smith's sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin. Maggie Smith's passing leaves behind two sons and five grandchildren.
