Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have been confirmed to join the Saltburn director's new film. The film is an adaptation of the classic novel Wuthering Heights. The project is directed by Emerald Fennell.
As reported by Variety on Monday September 23, 2024, the Wuthering Heights film will feature Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as the main characters. Robbie will play as Catherin Earnshaw, while Elordi will play as Heathcliff.
The two main characters are characters in Emily Brontë's classic romance novel. The novel was first published in November 1847 and is considered one of the greatest novels in the English language. The novel tells the story of an abandoned boy from Liverpool named Heathcliff.
He is then invited to live with the Earnshaw family at Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff initially refuses, but he is spoiled by his adoptive father. On the other hand, he also forms a close relationship with Earnshaw's daughter, Catherine Earnshaw.
The film project will be produced by LuckyChap or Margot Robbie's company. Previously, the company had also collaborated with Fennell for the film Promising Young Woman (2020) and the film Saltburn (2023). Fennell was even involved in Barbie (2023) as Midge.
Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi were the first two names announced for the project, which also serves as a reunion for Elordi and Fennell after Saltburn. Fennell has a great chance of getting another Saltburn actor, such as Barry Keoghan, because the actor has also expressed his willingness to work with Fennell again.
However, there is no definite information regarding Barry Keoghan who plays in Wuthering Heights. The upcoming project will also be Fennell's debut with Margot Robbie cast in the lead role. Catherine Earnshaw's role is the answer to the long-awaited wait for the actress who has admired the director's work.
Previously, they had only worked together behind the scenes as Robbie is the owner of the production company where Fennell's film projects are made. Wuthering Heights is currently in pre-production. The film is expected to shoot in the UK starting in 2025.
