The sex crime case involving former NCT member Taeil was reportedly forwarded to the prosecutor's office on Thursday (September 12, 2024). The Seoul Bangbae Police Station confirmed the news on Friday (September 13, 2024) and stated that the case was forwarded without detention.
This indicates that Taeil will not be arrested before the prosecutor's decision to proceed with the case. "We cannot tell you about the specific charges or details of the number of victims because the case has not been forwarded to the prosecution," said a member of the Seoul Bangbae Police Station, reported by Edaily on Friday September 13, 2024.
"But it is true that the case has been transferred to the prosecutor's office since September 12, 2024 without detention," the police continued. On the other hand, Korea JoongAng Daily reported that the 30-year-old musician was handed over to prosecutors on suspicion of sexual assault against an adult woman.
"Taeil was not using drugs at the time of the crime," a police official told reporters, declining to provide further details about the case. The case began when SM Entertainment, NCT's agency, suddenly announced Taeil's departure from NCT due to allegations of an undisclosed sexual crime case on August 28, 2024.
The agency later said that it had discussed the case with Taeil. However, both parties agreed that Taeil would leave NCT. SM Entertainment also said that the musician, whose full name is Moon Tae-il, was cooperative during the police investigation. SM promised to continue to provide updates regarding the case.
On the same day, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station later confirmed that they were investigating Taeil's alleged sexual crimes. The police also denied rumors of underage and homosexual sexual crimes that had been circulating. As of August 29, 2024, Newsen reported that the police station had received a complaint from a woman nicknamed A.
A admitted to having been sexually harassed by Taeil in June 2024. Since then, the police have immediately investigated and questioned the musician. Taeil started his career in the music industry in 2016 by debuting with NCT subgroup NCT U. He took a break from group activities due to an injury to his right thigh in a traffic accident on August 15, 2024.
