The Last Princess is a film directed by Hur Jin Ho which also stars top Korean actresses and actors such as Son Ye Jin , Park Hae Il, Ra Mi Ran, Jung Sang Hoon, and Ahn Nae Sang. The film which premiered on August 3, 2016 has a story adapted from a popular novel by Kwon Bi Young.

The story follows the bitter life of Princess Deokhye (Son Ye Jin), the last daughter of King Gojong, the last ruler of the Joseon Dynasty. At that time, in 1925, Japan had occupied Korea. However, King Gojong strongly opposed to submitting completely to Japan.

King Gojong's tough attitude towards Japan ultimately led to his death after drinking a poisoned drink, which was allegedly the work of Japanese henchmen. After King Gojong's death, the people placed their hopes on Princess Deokhye. Seeing this situation, Japan did not remain silent.

To weaken Korea, Princess Deokhye, who was 13 years old at the time, was required to go to school in Japan. This method was taken by Japan to make it easier to control Korea.  From then on, Princess Deokhye's life was nothing more than a prisoner. Her days were spent longing for her family and her homeland, Korea.

Until finally, Princess Deokhye meets Jang Han (Park Hae Il), an old friend and Japanese soldier who is willing to help her return to Korea. This movie is quite emotional and I admit, The Last Princess is one of the Korean movies that made me shed a lot of tears while watching it.

Thanks to the deep soul of the cast, the sad story of Princess Deokhye is conveyed with full feeling. Especially Son Hye Jin, her acting in this film deserves high appreciation. Because thanks to her acting, Princess Deokhye's misery and longing penetrated deeply into the heart.

What I like most is that Son Hye Jin's gestures and facial expressions here accurately reflect a fragile, suffering soul, so that the audience can easily feel sorry for the character she plays. The acting of the veteran actress, Ra Mi Ran, also deserves a thumbs up.

One of my favorite scenes in this film is when Ra Mi Ran as Bok Soon grabs General Han Taek Soo's hair because she doesn't accept his rough treatment of Princess Deokhye. In that scene, Ra Mi Ran as Bok Soon asserts her role as a servant who loves the princess she serves very much.

And it was quite an emotional scene for me. Technical things like camera angles, costumes, make-up, background sets, sound effects and so on successfully build the atmosphere throughout the story. With all its charm, it is only right that I recommend this film to all of Yoursay's friends!
