SHINee's Minho was a guest star on SNSD's Hyoyeon's YouTube channel on October 30, 2024. On that occasion, the idol born in 1991 clarified the contents of the visual center behavioral guidelines in SM Entertainment groups that were circulating on the internet.
Hyoyeon initially revealed, "It's no secret that Minho is SHINee's visual center. Many people must be wondering if the list is true?" There are about 5 rules that contain behavioral prohibitions for SM Entertainment's visual center members.
The list goes like this: 1. Don't talk, 2. Don't laugh too much, but never lose your smile, 3. Don't cry (shedding tears in a good way is allowed), 4. Don't be seen going to the restroom (for example, go to the KBS building and use their restroom when there's a schedule on MBC), 5. Don't close your eyes, and so on.
Minho started clarifying from the first point. "First, the 'don't talk' part is true. The agency told me not to talk, they said only the leader can talk. However, our leader (Onew) is not good at talking. That's not his strength," he said.
Hyoyeon immediately nodded and said, "So do we! They only want our leader, Tae Yeon, to do the talking, but she's an introvert, so..." Minho continued to say that the second guideline is difficult to implement, if you have a leader who has trouble talking. "When Onew has trouble talking by himself, the only thing I can do beside him is smile and laugh.
So, the 'don't laugh' part of the list is not true. Laughter is encouraged," Minho continued. Minho also clarified the content of the guidelines about not crying. "There was nothing that said 'don't cry' either. There was no involvement from the company in the crying part, not at all; I think they assumed we wouldn't be sad."
Minho then said, "I've never heard of 'Don't close your eyes' either, but there was an instruction not to look down while the camera was rolling. They told us to look forward. And it's not that we shouldn't be caught going to the toilet. It's that we have to let them know in advance before going to the toilet."
