Disney confirms the live-action Snow White movie will hit theaters on March 21, 2025. The live-action Snow White film stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot. The news of the release was announced by Disney through the Disney Content Showcase event held in Singapore on Wednesday November 20, 2024 and also became the first Disney content to open 2025.
In the trailer shown at the event, Snow White will revive the legendary children's classic story which is now being directed by Marc Webb. Snow White was the child of a king who then got a stepmother. When her father died, the evil stepmother, named Evil Queen, took over the kingdom and knocked out Snow White.
Snow White was exiled and lived in the forest and met the seven dwarfs. There, Snow White felt more alive and planned to take back her rights that had been taken by the Evil Queen. This film is the first live action adaptation of the legendary Walt Disney Animations animation released in 1937.
Initially, this latest project was announced since 2021 and has collaborated with Rachel Zegler who has managed to attract public attention since West Side Story. Previously, this Snow White live action was even planned to air in 2024.
However, the film experienced a delay which made Disney as the production house announce the postponement of the film's release until March 21, 2025. Disney also previously released the first trailer for the live action Snow White via YouTube in August 2024, showing an outline of the story that follows Snow White as the main character.
The legendary animated story of Snow White itself is an adaptation of a fairy tale by the German Brothers Grimm and was later released by Walt Disney Productions on December 21, 1937. The animated film received overwhelming praise on the global stage and became the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
The film, which cost US$1.4 million to produce, earned a box office profit of US$416 million. On the other hand, Disney also announced the certainty of the release of the live action film Lilo & Stitch which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.
