BTS's Jungkook has been serving in the military since December 2023. The idol, born in 1997, underwent training at the Fifth Infantry Division New Recruit Training Center in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi. Now, he serves as a cook at a military camp.
On December 18, 2024, Jungkook held a live broadcast on WeVerse during his day off from the military. The “Standing Next to You” singer spent about 2 hours and 24 minutes with fans, from 11:39 p.m. to 2:03 a.m. KST. Throughout the live broadcast, netizens noticed a burn on one of Jungkook's hands.
Many were worried because the burn must have been very painful. Netizens hoped that the burn would be treated well and would not leave a scar. " Ugh it must hurt. But did he remove her tattoo? I thought she had a tattoo on that arm..??![sic!] ," one netizen wrote. " That must hurt ugh[sic!] ," another added.
" Aigo, I hope he doesn't get a scar[sic!] ," another netizen said. " He should keep applying the burn ointment. Otherwise he will get scars [sic!] ," added another. " It must be very painful, I hope he keeps applying the ointment ," continued another netizen.
" Kook-ah huhuhu [sic!] ," concluded another netizen. In his live broadcast, Jungkook also entertained fans by doing karaoke of popular songs. The idol refused when fans asked him to sing BTS songs. Jungkook revealed that he would sing BTS songs if he reunites with the members later.
In addition, Jungkook also shared his feelings of inferiority during his military service. "Honestly, my self-esteem has been really low lately. I'll come back for you all, but my self-esteem is so low that it makes me feel scared," Jungkook said.
The idol even thought about becoming a chef. "At one point, I even thought, 'Should I just cook to make a living?' Not seriously, of course, but those thoughts crossed my mind while in the military," he continued. However, Jungkook realized that he had to return as an idol.
"While serving in the military, I watched other artists and thought, 'I want to perform on stage again soon. I have to be better than them.' I think I felt inferior or something. Because of serving in the military, I can't do much right now," he said. Jungkook felt like he had to get back on stage as soon as he saw them perform.
"Seeing other artists made me feel like I had to get back out there as soon as possible. My self-esteem took a hit, and I became more withdrawn. That's why I missed you all even more. Honestly, there aren't many people I can share these thoughts with, so I just kept it to myself," Jungkook concluded.
