Korean actor Gong Yoo returns in the second season of Squid Game, which airs on Thursday December 26, 2024. Despite his brief appearance, Gong Yoo has received high praise for his performance in Squid Game 2. His acting skills, which have been active for 23 years, are unquestionable.

In the first season of Squid Game, Gong Yoo's character was only shown recruiting participants for the survival game in the subway station. Now Gong Yoo has more screen time in Squid Game 2. The winner of the first season, Seong Gi Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae) has been searching for his whereabouts for two years.

Seong Gi Hun hires a gang of thugs to search for Gong Yoo from morning to night, in all the subway stations. They are promised a reward of one billion won. One day, Gong Yoo is found in a subway station by the boss and his men. His character is back in a suit, recruiting desperate people as participants in a survival game, inviting them to play ddakji.

After exiting the subway, Gong Yoo's character buys 100 loaves of bread and 100 lottery tickets and heads to a park.  He asks the homeless to choose between bread and lottery tickets. Most of them choose lottery tickets but fail to win the jackpot.

The next scene looks shocking because Gong Yoo tramples on hundreds of breads that the homeless did not choose. The episode 'Bread and Lottery' in Squid Game 2 shows the psychopathic side behind Gong Yoo's sweet smile and handsomeness. The two thugs hired by Seong Gi Hun to follow Gong Yoo are also in danger.

They are trapped in a game of Russian roulette, relying on the advantage of pulling the trigger and rock-paper-scissors. Seong Gi Hun failed to save their lives and was visited directly by Gong Yoo at his hideout. A confrontation ensued where the two threw their emotions at each other.

Gong Yoo's character invites him to play Russian roulette and the last bullet ends up killing the recruiter on the spot. Both could have shot each other, but put their egos first over the luck of not getting shot from each trigger pull. Seong Gi Hun took the risk to dig up information from Gong Yoo about the survival game.

According to Squid Game 2 director Hwang Dong Hyuk, the former gambling addict also dared to play Russian roulette because he was addicted to winning and felt challenged. It's just that fans regret that Gong Yoo's character died in the first episode of Squid Game 2. They hoped to see his 'madness' longer.

"Gong Yoo's acting in Eps 1 Squid Game is really crazy, REAL." commented a fan on Twitter. "In the squid game he's annoying. But you can't hate me... Haduuuh... mas gong yoo," said a fan. "Gong Yoo, it's better to play romance, Squid Game is really scary," said another fan.
