ADOR has filed a lawsuit seeking confirmation of the validity of their exclusive contract with NewJeans, following the group’s announcement of their departure from the label to work independently under Min Hee Jin’s leadership.

On Thursday, ADOR revealed that they submitted a lawsuit to the Seoul Central District Court on December 3, 2024, aiming to confirm the ongoing validity of their exclusive contract with NewJeans. This legal step comes in light of NewJeans’ plans to pursue various activities, with ADOR asserting that their contractual relationship is still legally binding.

In an official statement, ADOR explained the reasoning behind their legal action: “We believe it is necessary to clarify to the artists and all involved parties that an exclusive contract cannot simply be terminated based on one side’s claim.

The K-pop industry has grown on the foundation of trust and healthy relationships between artists and companies. Through this lawsuit, we aim to uphold these principles and protect the core of Korea’s cultural industry.”

They continued, “This is also to ensure that the artists don’t mistakenly assume their contract has been lawfully terminated and violate the terms of the existing agreement, which could lead to unforeseen damage and confusion for domestic and international industry partners.”

NewJeans had previously announced their departure from HYBE and ADOR during an emergency press conference on November 28, 2024, declaring their intention to pursue independent activities starting the following day.

Despite the legal dispute, ADOR reiterated their desire to continue working with NewJeans. “We ask for your support and encouragement so that ADOR and the NewJeans members can wisely navigate and overcome this situation together.”
