Actor Park Sung Hoon is one of the players in Squid Game season 2. Park Sung Hoon plays a transgender named Hyun Ju. Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk had a special reason for presenting a transgender character like Hyun Ju. The director wanted to showcase minority groups in Korean society, one of which is transgender people.
"In the first season, there were players who came from minorities in Korean society, such as foreign workers or North Korean defectors. For the second season, I intend to include LGBT characters," Hwang Dong Hyuk said at a Squid Game 2 press conference, as reported by SBS Star News.
He also believes that Hyun Ju's character will be the focus of Squid Game 2 viewers. Because, Hyun Ju's character will highlight the human side amidst the cruelty of the Squid Game. "I think Hyun Ju will get a lot of attention and love when the new season is released later.
The audience can maintain the human side through Hyun Ju in the hell on earth in the form of Squid Game," he added. Park Sung Hoon, who will play a transgender character, also has the same beliefs as the director. "Hyun Ju's caring attitude towards others makes her character stand out from other Squid Game players.
Hyun Ju is a brave and fair figure, and has great leadership skills," he explained. Squid Game 2 series will air on Netflix on December 26, 2024. In addition to Park Sung Hoon, other new players will be present to enliven this series, including Kang Ha Neul, TOP, Jo Yu Ri, and Im Si Wan.
