Cha Eun-woo officially became a Catholic after being baptized during his military service, his agency confirmed on Wednesday, July 2, 2026. A representative from Fantagio said Cha Eun-woo received the Catholic sacrament last June 2026, and he also confirmed previous local media reports.

Quoting from the Korean Times, based on a News1 report, the ASTRO member was baptized in a religious ceremony held at his military base. This is part of the religious activities available to military members.

Cha Eun-woo enlisted as an active-duty soldier in the Korean People's Army in July of last year and currently serves in the Army's military band. He is scheduled to be discharged in January 2027. The actor remains in the spotlight even while serving his mandatory military service. 

Earlier this year, he faced controversy over a tax payment dispute. Initial reports claimed authorities had imposed an income tax reassessment of about 20 billion won ($14.7 million), but later reports said he ended up paying about 13 billion won in additional taxes. 

Cha Eun-woo also apologized for the controversy at the time. The following is Cha Eun-woo's apology statement, "I sincerely apologize to my fans and everyone for the disappointment and confusion caused by the tax controversy involving me," he said. 

He also added, "If there are things that I failed to check carefully enough, I take full responsibility for them. Before starting his military service, Cha built a successful acting career alongside his activities as a member of the K-pop group ASTRO. His latest project, "The Wonder Fools" on Netflix, was released in May 2026.

Famous as the visual of the boyband ASTRO and a top actor, he also starred in various hit dramas such as Gangnam Beauty and True Beauty, which made his name even more well-known and became one of the most popular idols among Korean drama lovers.
