The ongoing legal battle between the family of the late Barbie Hsu and the actress' ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei over inheritance and debt of 35 million TWD has reportedly been temporarily halted. The reason is because Barbie's two children were rushed to the hospital.
According to the information, Xiaofei and his wife Mandy went to visit the Barbie children on February 21, 2025. However, they realized something was wrong because Wang Hsi-yueh and Wang Hsi-lin looked lethargic, tired, and had a fever.
Without hesitation, Xiaofei immediately took them to the emergency room late at night. Leaked messages from a nurse at Taipei Children’s Hospital revealed that the two children had a severe cough and high fever, requiring 18 hours of intravenous fever-reducing treatment.
Throughout the night, Xiaofei appeared anxious, constantly checking their temperatures. Xiaofei also warmed up the IV drip in his coat so that it would not feel too cold. At 3 am, the man even went out to buy a humidifier for his two children. News of the children's condition after their mother's death has left the public heartbroken and worried.
On Weibo, netizens questioned why Barbie's family was unaware of the children's deteriorating health. Many speculated that if Xiaofei had not arrived in Taiwan in time, the consequences could have been worse. Critics have accused Barbie's relatives of neglecting the children while focusing on a dispute with Xiaofei over an inheritance.
This is not the first time the family has faced backlash before, having been criticized for allegedly ignoring Barbie's deteriorating condition when she fell ill in Japan. The delay in seeking treatment for Barbie eventually led to fatal pneumonia complications just five days later.
Further investigation on Weibo showed Barbie's family treated their children unfairly after the actress' death. According to reports, Barbie's mother brought Dee Hsu's children back to Taiwan the day before the actress' ashes were brought home.
At the airport, Dee Hsu's children were fully covered in masks, hats, and matching outfits. However, on February 5, during a flight from Japan to Taiwan, Barbie's two children were left without an adult family member to accompany them.
There was no staff assigned to protect them from media attention, and the two were seen walking alone through the airport under the guidance of security personnel. This lack of support made them easy targets for photographers, leading to widespread images of their vulnerable condition on the day their mother's ashes were returned home.
One particular cultural faux pas further fueled public outrage over the children’s choice of attire during their mother’s homecoming ceremony. While traditional Chinese mourning customs call for family members to wear black or dark-colored clothing, Hsi-yueh was seen wearing a white coat, and Hsi-lin wore a red coat, colors considered highly inappropriate for mourning.
According to ETtoday, Barbie's daughter, Hsi-yueh, was devastated by her mother's death. She often cried until her eyes were swollen. The media and the public alike urged for immediate attention and emotional support to be given to the children during this difficult time. However, many believe that Barbie's family did not pay enough attention to the welfare of the two children.
