NewJeans members are now ready to be active with a new group name. On February 7, 2025, fashion and culture festival ComplexCon announced that Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein will be headlining the event under their new name, NJZ.
According to ComplexCon, this will be NJZ's first time performing under their new name. It is said that the group will be performing music that has never been heard before. The members expressed their excitement to be back on stage.
"We are so excited to step on stage for the first time as NJZ and share something new with everyone. This is a big moment for us and we can't wait for fans to be a part of this journey with us and show the world our new music that we have been waiting to share for a long time," said Minji.
Hyein and friends have also changed their Instagram account name @jeanzforfree to @njz_official. They also changed their profile picture showing the new group name, starting a new journey. In their Instagram Story post they also tagged ComplexCon.
The name of the new group of NewJeans members immediately drew various comments from netizens. " So they will be promoting under the name NJZ?![sic!] ," wrote one netizen. " Wow, cool. I thought they would choose a completely different name[sic!] ," added another. " So they're going to start promoting again. I hope their new album comes out soon [sic!] ," another netizen said.
" Oh, there's a Y2K vibe to it. I like it [sic!] ," another added. " I like the name NewJeans. Too bad ," another netizen continued. After unilaterally declaring their departure from ADOR and HYBE, NJZ (NewJeans) previously held a contest to choose their new stage name.
However, their former agency ADOR insisted that the move was a “serious breach of contract.” The members said, "Bunnies (NewJeans fandom)! We will be holding a 2-day contest where you suggest us a new stage name that we can use for a certain period of time.
Please join by leaving a comment! We will choose a name from Bunnies' suggestions!" On the other hand, NewJeans' new name was previously believed to be JeanZ, but no trademark filings were found for this name.
Now, as NewJeans has changed its name to NJZ, questions about trademark filings for this new name have also been raised. In addition, a contract lawsuit to determine the validity of NewJeans' exclusive contract with ADOR will begin this April 2025.
