Former NCT Member Moon Tae-il, also known as Taeil received a verdict for his actions in his first trial. Previously, prosecutors had sought a seven-year prison sentence for Taeil and his two friends, Lee and Hong.

On Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Seoul District Court sentenced Taeil and two other perpetrators to three years and six months in prison for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (Pseudo-Aggravated Rape) guilty of quasi-harassment.

The court also ordered them to complete 40 hours of sexual violence education and imposed a five-year work restriction on them from working in institutions involving children and adolescents. "The perpetrators admitted their actions and, based on the evidence, were found guilty.

The victims felt helpless because they were under the influence and the acts occurred at Lee's residence," the court said in a statement. "The victim, a foreign tourist, suffered psychological trauma as she experienced the act in an unfamiliar place.

The court also considered the fact that the perpetrator committed a crime and the victim did not want to pursue punishment," he continued. Taeil 's legal team also asked for a lighter sentence because Taeil wrote a confession letter to the authorities, but the court rejected the request.

"Because the confession was given after the perpetrator was searched and investigated, it is not considered a voluntary confession and does not reduce the sentence," the court said. Taeil, who was present at the trial, also did not comment on the verdict.

After the verdict was read, Taeil and his two friends were immediately detained by police. In June 2024, Taeil and two of his friends raped a Chinese woman by rendering her unconscious. A month later, Taeil's agency, SM Entertainment, announced Taeil's departure from the group NCT.
