Formerly of NCT member Taeil has received a reduced sentence for the rape case he committed with two accomplices. Prosecutors had initially sought a seven-year prison sentence for the three defendants.

However, Taeil, formerly of NCT, and his friends have now been sentenced to three and a half years. Earlier on Wednesday June 18, 2025, Taeil, formerly of NCT, attended his first court appearance in 10 months.

The "Fact Check" singer appeared with his lawyer, dressed all in black and covering his face with a mask. He also kept his head down as he walked past the media. During the trial, Taeil, formerly of NCT, and two of his friends admitted to the charges of aggravated rape.

Prosecutors demanded a 7-year prison sentence for the three defendants. The chronology of the rape was read out in court. Taeil, formerly of NCT, and two of his friends met the female victim, whom they did not know, at a bar in the Itaewon area on Thursday June 13, 2024 at 2:33 a.m.

After a drinking session, the defendants forced the victim into a taxi to one of the defendants' residences in the Bangbae area of Seoul. There, between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m., NCT's Taeil and two of his friends raped the victim, who was drunk and unconscious.

Through his lawyer, Taeil, formerly of NCT, pleaded for leniency and stated that he had reached a peace agreement with the victim. The Chinese female victim reportedly hoped Taeil, formerly of NCT, would not receive a prison sentence. However, prosecutors did not believe her defense and questioned the validity of the singer's statement.

When asked how he was doing, Taeil, a former member of NCT, replied, "I used to be a singer, but I was kicked out of the agency. I'm working part-time now." His lawyer added that Taeil, a former member of NCT, makes a living by helping out at a friend's cafe.

On Thursday July 10, 2025, the 26th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court officially sentenced Taeil, formerly of NCT, and two of his friends to three years and six months in prison. Taeil, formerly of NCT, and his two friends were also required to complete a 40-hour sexual violence education program.

Furthermore, Taeil, formerly of NCT, and two of his friends were registered as sexual offenders in their neighborhood as a warning. They were also banned from professional work involving children and adolescents for the next five years.

Following the verdict, the Seoul Central District Court issued arrest warrants for former NCT member Taeil and two of his friends to prevent the three defendants from fleeing. "Since prison sentences have been imposed, we assess a flight risk and have issued arrest warrants."
