Singer PSY has been detained by police for possession of drugs without proper procedures, including consultation and a prescription. This news was confirmed by authorities and responded to by the artist's representatives.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Seodaemun Police in Seoul reportedly detained PSY along with Professor A, a doctor at the hospital who prescribed the medication. Police also searched PSY's home due to indications the singer received prescriptions for Xanax and Stilnox without consulting him.

Since 2022, PSY has asked his manager to take the drug until now using his name. Xanax and Stillnox are two psychotropic medications used to treat sleep and anxiety disorders with a high level of dependency.

In-person consultations have been mandatory since 2021, meaning patients prescribed these medications cannot have remote consultations and can be represented by someone else except in exceptional cases.

PSY's manager did not receive a direct prescription, but took the medication under PSY's name, potentially violating the Medical Services Act. P NATION, the agency founded and overseeing PSY, provided a complete statement regarding its artist.

"Using a third party to obtain prescription-only medication was a mistake. We apologize," P NATION said on Thursday, August 28, 2025. "PSY was diagnosed with a chronic sleep disorder and was taking sleeping medication as prescribed by a medical team.

The medication was used under supervision and according to the dosage stated on the prescription," he said. "During the process, a third party represented her to collect the medication, and the police are currently investigating. We apologize for causing concern," the agency concluded.
