TVING  officially announced the production of the second season of the original series Study Group. Another exciting news is that this drama was nominated for the Best OTT Original category at the 2025 International Streaming Festival Global OTT Awards.

The Study Group series is adapted from a webtoon of the same title by writer Shin Hyung Wook and illustrator Yoo Seung Yeon. The story follows Yoon Ga Min, a teenager who dreams of being academically brilliant but is only talented in fighting.

He eventually plunges into the harsh world of entrance exams at the worst school, forming a study group full of action and comedy. Both the webtoon and the drama are produced by content company YLAB (CEO Shim Joon Kyung).

YLAB utilized this moment to expand the potential of the Study Group's intellectual property (IP) into various fields. Thanks to the success of the first season, the production team has now begun the planning and development stages for the second season.

Study Group premiered on TVING in January this year and ranked first in contribution to adding new paid subscribers for five consecutive weeks. Not only was it successful in South Korea, this drama also received a positive response internationally.

In its first week on Rakuten Viki, Study Group  ranked in the top 5 in 143 countries. Meanwhile, on VIU , the drama reached number one in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan. In addition to screen adaptations, YLAB is also preparing various OSMU (One Source Multi Use) projects.

One of them is the launch of the Yuseong Technical High School windbreaker worn by the characters in the drama. The product went on sale through crowdfunding on Tumblbug on August 8th and within three days had reached 450% of its target. This coming October, two special Study Group events  will be held.

From October 2nd to November 2nd, a collaboration cafe with Toonkik will be held at the Hapjeong (Universe) and Busan branches. Then on October 16, a special Study Group  pop-up booth will appear at Lotte World Mall during the 2025 World Webtoon Festival.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency, showcasing the latest MD products. YLAB also plans to present brand collaborations and various other events leading up to the broadcast of the second season.

All this is done to make Study Group  a Super IP that is loved by many people. "Through this nomination, we feel that Study Group has been recognized both in terms of popularity and quality," said a YLAB representative.

“We will continue to try new things so that Study Group  can reach more fans and become a super IP .” Webtoon Study Group was first launched on Naver Webtoon in January 2019 and is currently in its third season.
