Lee Dong Gun has been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, a rare inflammatory disease. The South Korean actor announced this on SBS's My Little Old Boy. In the program, the 'Queen for Seven Days' star was seen visiting the hospital complaining of a red right eye and frequent loss of focus in his vision.
"If this redness gets worse, my eyes will be extremely sensitive to light, and it's incredibly painful. After a year of this, I think I'm starting to adapt," he said. After analyzing the actor's X-ray results, doctors diagnosed him with Ankylosing spondylitis, a rare inflammatory disease that affects only 1 percent of South Koreans.
This disease causes the sufferer's spine to stiffen and fuse together. "Uveitis in the eye is an early symptom of ankylosing spondylitis, and your inflammation is currently in stages 2 and 3," the doctor explained. Doctors revealed that there is a "specific gene" linked to the disease.
However, Lee Dong Gun admitted that he was the only one in his family to experience the symptoms. "Given your condition, this condition could worsen. Since the cause is unknown, you must manage your lifestyle," the doctor added.
