South Korean actor and ASTRO member Cha Eun Woo has captured public attention with his latest appearance. Photos have surfaced of him wearing a black tuxedo while performing with an orchestra, as a member of the Army military band.
Cha Eun Woo is currently on hiatus from the Korean entertainment industry due to his mandatory military service. However, while serving, the star of the Korean drama "True Beauty" was caught up in a tax evasion scandal.
The National Tax Service revealed that Cha Eun Woo had been under investigation even before he began his military service. He was suspected of using a tactic to evade income taxes by creating a one-man agency deemed a "fictitious company."
According to a statement from the National Tax Service in January 2026, Cha Eun Woo was fined 20 billion won. Shortly afterward, Cha Eun Woo posted an apology on his Instagram account.
He promised to follow the investigation procedures and accept the National Tax Service's final decision. However, one by one, brands collaborating with Cha Eun Woo withdrew advertisements featuring his face due to negative sentiment from Korean netizens.
These included skincare brand Abib, fashion brand Marithé François Girbaud, banking institution Shinhan Bank, and Daesung's educational platform MIMAC. Cha Eun Woo's tax controversy finally ended in early April 2026.
The initial 20 billion won embezzlement amount was only an estimate. The actor settled his fine by paying 13 billion won. He also made his first appearance after being "clean" from the scandal. On Tuesday (April 28, 2026), a photo of Cha Eun Woo participating in a military band event went viral.
The 29-year-old actor was seen saluting on stage. As seen from the upload of the X account @ChaEunwooINTL, Cha Eun Woo interacted with the audience who were excited to watch his performance as a vocalist for a military band orchestra.
The post was immediately flooded with comments from fans who were thrilled to see Cha Eun Woo make his first public appearance. The Korean drama "The Wonderfools," starring Cha Eun Woo and Park Eun Bin, is also confirmed to premiere on Netflix on May 15, 2026.
